Education: My Bachelor of Science degree comes from Valparaiso University, where I majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry and Theology.
In 2006 I graduated with a Master of Science in Science Education from Montana State University. This program gave me an excellent foundation in both educational philosophies and strategies, and in some of the more recent developments in science.
Experience: I started teaching informally just after college at environmental education centers in Michigan, Illinois, and Oregon. Then I moved to Ohio and (after a short stint at COSI) started teaching in the classroom at a private school in Columbus. I taught math to students in fifth through eighth grades there, and science to fifth graders. I then spent two years in Curitiba, Brazil teaching in a self-contained fifth grade classroom at an international school, however I missed my family and community here in the U.S. of A., and moved back to Columbus to found Education Alternatives.
Philosophy: I believe that the main advocates for a child's education are the parents. My goal as an educator is to support the family through providing quality instruction and frequent communication.
